Momo Challenge

1st March 2019

Internet safety Warning
As many of you will be aware, a new internet challenge has allegedly made its way to the UK. The challenge is called the Momo challenge.

What is it and why is it dangerous?
The Momo challenge is an online “game” that encourages young people to harm themselves and in some cases even take their own lives. It threatens to harm them or people close to them if they don’t complete the challenge.

Momo, described as a “suicide challenge”, features an avatar of a woman with dark hair, pale skin and oversized eyes, who sends young people images and instructions on how to harm themselves
and others.

The avatar has reportedly hacked into WhatsApp, Fortnite, Peppa Pig and Youtube.

We ask you to monitor children's online and social media activity closely and to look out for unusually secretive behaviour and install good parenting software.

Please could we ask that you discuss the challenge with your child in an age appropriate way and stress the importance of informing you immediately if they come across this challenge. We thank you for
your support in this matter.
